Potter Minton announces that Federal Jury in Marshall, Texas has ruled in
favor of its client, the national cable service provider Charter Communications,
Inc., in an action alleging patent infringement.
The action was
brought by Hybrid Patents, Inc., who claimed that it owned patents on the
industry standard developed for high-speed Internet connections over cable
modems. Hybrid sought as much as $176 million in damages as well as treble
damages for willful infringement.
Charter Communications, Inc., the
third-largest publicly traded cable operator in the United States, serves more
than 5.7 million customers in 29 states. A Fortune 500 company, Charter is
headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri.
